Artist-in-Residence
A cornerstone of Black Arts Consortium programming, the Artist-in-Residence program supports artists at pivotal stages of their creative practice. Through a nomination process led by the BAC’s Advisory Board in collaboration with local artists and arts organizations, the Consortium selects creatives with upcoming projects that demonstrate exceptional artistic merit and impact. Artists receive a stipend and dedicated studio space within the BAC suite on the 18th floor of Abbott Hall in downtown Chicago.
The residency offers opportunities to connect with the Black artists, scholars, and students affiliated with Northwestern University while advancing their own work in a vibrant intellectual and creative community. Residents also present at least one public program, sharing their artistic practice, showcasing works in progress, or mentoring others as they develop their own projects. The program welcomes artists at all career stages, from emerging practitioners to internationally recognized leaders in their practice.
